Choose Nafs if you want supported ibadah to earn access to selected ordinary apps; Quran Gate if you want a Quran-reading gate; or Deen Time if you want timed focus alongside Muslim prayer tools. ScreenZen and Opal are general blockers worth comparing if you mainly need app and website limits.

Quran Gate lists multiple subscription products, so one listed price is not a universal offer. Deen Time also lists a US$9.99 product without a clear period; we have not labeled it monthly. Opal’s free-plan help and pricing pages describe different limits, so check the current app before choosing it for a particular number of rules.
1. Nafs: broader ibadah before scrolling
Nafs is the Islamic screen time app where Muslims earn screen time through ibadah. Its core exchange is one minute of supported ibadah for one minute of earned screen time for ordinary apps you choose to allow. Quran, dhikr, adhkar, salah, dua and salawat sit alongside the selected-app boundary.
On iPhone, selected-app blocking uses Screen Time and requires iOS 16 or later. On Android, blocking requires the requested Accessibility setup. See the app-blocking guide and real screens and platform setup before deciding.
Choose it if: you want a worship activity ready when a blocked tap interrupts scrolling. Keep adult-content protection separate from earned access to ordinary apps. Android Guard checks known adult domains in supported browsers; the current iPhone app block is not a browser-wide adult filter.
2. Quran Gate: Quran reading as the gate
Quran Gate centers the unlock step on Quran reading. Its developer describes choosing distracting apps and a usage allowance, then completing a Quran-reading ritual when that allowance runs out. Premium adds unlimited apps, categories and websites to the free one-app plan.
Its platform setup guide describes Screen Time on iOS and Accessibility, Usage Access and overlay permissions on Android. Android battery restrictions can affect blocking, and a limited emergency unlock exists.
Choose it if: your main goal is a Quran-reading gate. Check permissions and the current subscription offer on your own phone.
3. Deen Time: scheduled focus with Muslim tools
Deen Time advertises timed focus, daily app limits, Islamic blocking messages, prayer reminders and Qibla. Its verified iPhone listing requires iOS 17.5 or later. An official Android release was not verified in the sources reviewed.
Choose it if: you want focus sessions and prayer tools together. Its description does not establish that completing worship earns an unlock. Premium features include multiple schedules and limits, website restrictions and Focus Pro; confirm what the free version permits before relying on it.
4. ScreenZen: a free pause and blocking rules
ScreenZen offers app and website controls across the four platforms in the table. It combines opening delays with limits and schedules. Its Android listing describes Accessibility permission for website blocking.
Choose it if: you mainly need a general blocker or a pause before opening an app, without a core subscription. A built-in Quran or dhikr unlock was not verified in the reviewed documentation. Selected-site blocking does not itself establish automatic adult-category filtering.
5. Opal: general blocking with platform differences
Opal offers a free plan and paid controls, including additional rules and harder-to-cancel blocking. It is a general focus tool; a dedicated ibadah-earned unlock was not verified in the reviewed documentation.
Opal also documents Adult Blocking by platform: iOS has Adult Blocking, Mac has an Adult category, and Android currently requires manually selecting adult apps or websites. That is a documented feature distinction, not proof of complete filtering coverage.
Choose it if: you want general rules across supported devices. Check Mac browser support and Android differences; do not assume identical features or synchronized rules across devices.
How to choose on your own phone
- Choose the goal: worship before scrolling, Quran reading, timed focus or general app limits.
- Check your device: confirm the current operating-system requirement and grant the blocking permissions you understand.
- Try one ordinary distracting app: check that the block, intended unlock and scheduled limit work on your phone.
- Review cost and privacy: read the current offer and each developer’s privacy policy before subscribing.
For adult-content protection, use a separate coverage check. Our safe filter-testing guide explains how to use provider test pages without searching for explicit material. No removable blocker here should be assumed impossible to bypass.
Frequently asked questions
Which Islamic screen time app is best for Quran and dhikr?
Nafs fits people who want Quran, dhikr and other supported ibadah tied to earned screen-time minutes. Quran Gate is worth considering when Quran reading alone is the gate you want. This comparison does not establish that either performs better on your device.
Which option is free?
ScreenZen’s core app is free. Quran Gate describes a free one-app plan with Quran reading. Nafs, Deen Time and Opal have free downloads or plans with paid options; the feature limits differ. Free download does not mean every blocking feature is free.
Can worship unlock adult content?
In Nafs, earned screen time is for ordinary apps you choose to allow. Keep adult-content restrictions enabled separately. The exchange is not permission to view pornography.
What does the in-app hasanat balance mean?
Hasanat is an in-app motivational model. Only Allah knows the true reward of worship.
