Frequently Asked Questions

How does the hasanat system work?

When you perform ibadah in the app (reading Quran, reciting adhkar, counting tasbeeh, etc.), you earn hasanat in real-time — roughly 1 hasanah per second of active worship. These hasanat are your "spiritual currency" that you can spend to unlock blocked apps. The exchange rate is 1:1 — 1 minute of ibadah earns you 1 minute of screen time.

Does the app actually block other apps?

Yes! Nafs uses Screen Time APIs on iOS and UsageStats/Accessibility APIs on Android to block apps you choose. On the free tier, you can block up to 3 apps. Premium unlocks unlimited app blocking.

What is the difference between Host Mode and Tracker Mode?

Host Mode is for in-app ibadah — the app provides the content (Quran text, adhkar audio, tasbeeh counter, etc.) and tracks your worship in real-time. Tracker Mode is for logging ibadah you do offline — like praying at the masjid, reading from a physical mushaf, or counting tasbeeh on real beads.

Is my dua journal really private?

Absolutely. Your dua journal entries are end-to-end encrypted. This means even we cannot read them. The encryption keys are stored only on your device. Your duas are between you and Allah.

Can I use Nafs without the app-blocking feature?

Yes! Many users use Nafs purely as an ibadah companion without enabling any app blocking. The Quran reader, adhkar library, tasbeeh counter, and dua features all work independently.

What happens during an emergency unlock?

If you need urgent access to a blocked app, you can use the emergency unlock feature. It grants immediate access with no judgement. We understand that life happens, and we designed this feature to be compassionate, not punitive.

Does the app work offline?

Yes! Core features like the tasbeeh counter, saved adhkar, and tracker mode work fully offline. Quran recitation audio requires an internet connection for streaming, but downloaded surahs work offline.

How do I cancel my Premium subscription?

You can cancel anytime through your device's app store (Apple App Store or Google Play). Your Premium features remain active until the end of your current billing period. Your data is never deleted when you downgrade.

Is the app available on both iOS and Android?

Yes! Nafs is available on both iOS and Android. Download it from the App Store or Google Play.

How is Nafs different from other Muslim apps?

Nafs is the only app that directly connects ibadah with screen time management. Other apps offer Quran or adhkar features separately, and screen time apps just block things. Nafs bridges both: it gives you meaningful worship content AND uses it to manage your digital habits through the hasanat economy.
